JOE BATCHELLER

For Sioux Falls Mayor

My fascination with cities started early, when my dad took me to a public meeting about replacing the old Washington High School. I think I was eleven years old at the time.

When I traveled abroad for the first time, I realized there are many ways cities can develop. Seeing how other places solve problems shaped my view of what’s possible for Sioux Falls.

In 2009, I earned my master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of California, Irvine. With that training in hand, I was ready to help cities maximize their potential.

The thing is, I couldn’t stop thinking about Sioux Falls. I grew up here. I graduated from Roosevelt High School and later from the University of Sioux Falls, where I met my wife. Sioux Falls isn’t just home—it’s special to me. This city is built on civic-mindedness and collaboration—values my family has held dear for generations.

When the executive director role at Downtown Sioux Falls Inc. opened, I felt called to lead. Beginning in 2015, I led downtown through one of its most prosperous and transformational periods since World War II.

I want to bring that same passion and dedication to City Hall—to help Sioux Falls grow intentionally, intelligently, efficiently, and affordably.

Join me as we build a Sioux Falls powered by strong neighborhoods where people and business thrive.
